Can technology find the cure for cancer and be the key to immortality? Could robots be our next best friends? Will we be taking vacations to outer space or escaping in virtual reality (VR) worlds? What will air travel be like? Or will we be moving from place to place through teleportation? Will we have control over nature and the weather?
How much will things change in the next 25 or 100 years?
It’s amazing to think that quite a large number of the fantastic technologies written about in the old science fiction books have actually come to pass. A mere half century ago no one could have imagined the tremendous impact computers, mobile phones and the internet would have on people’s daily lives. In 1943, famous inventor Thomas J. Watson predicted we would only need five computers worldwide. And boy, was he mistaken. Computers have revolutionized the way the world functions – from commerce and industry to entertainment and recreation. Now, just about sixty years after Watson’s infamous forecast, the PC has become a staple in many American, European and Asian homes – something that was practically inconceivable in the 1940s.
And get ready, because the technology of tomorrow will herald changes at an even quicker pace than we have seen up to this moment.
One thing we have learned from the tremendous growth of technology in the recent years is that nothing is impossible. Who knows, someday elevators could shoot up to space, cars could depend on the sun and not on gasoline, devices could manipulate the weather, robots could take over our jobs and Cancer and Alzheimer’s could be nightmares from our past. Technology has proven time and again that man’s imagination and ingenuity know no bounds. As long as man continues to dream, innovate and invent, the technology of tomorrow will be brighter than ever.
One day, this future will arrive. And hopefully, the earth will still be a beautiful place.
So please take a look around and enjoy some of our in depth guides.
